It's Not Personal

I reflected last night on a few conversations my friends and I had recently. We are all in the same industry, fight the same battles and practically endure the same obstacles from time to time. I've always had an ability to see things just for what they are and adjust wherever I needed to, to keep things progressive. However, I'm human and sometimes I succumb and fail to see things as I should see them at the respective moment.

One of the things I want to stress to you all, whether you're in the industry of Entertainment, Performing Arts, Law, Business, Medicine is that we all have our season. We will all have our time to bask in the sun and no longer will our careers toil in obscurity. It's very easy sometimes to doubt or question the direction to which you're headed, especially when you experience some hardship. Lesson one: Whatever decision that is made NOT in your favor is not personal. In some rare cases you may find yourself dealing with some immature people that may make their decisions personal based on your creed, color, race, length of hair, shape of lips, height, weight and so forth. What you must realize is that they do not hold your good fortune in their hands, so don't give them power by taking it personal and letting their decision derail your vision.

If you have a job interview, audition, meeting with your boss to discuss a promotion, don't go in expecting the world because you'll leave yourself vulnerable to feelings of guilt and inadequacy. You must make an effort to be even keeled in such situations. Your goal is to do your best, have a demeanor that exudes confidence and radiance, and you'll leave the room feeling victorious no matter the outcome. No longer will it be about "if I get this job, or if I don't", that decision isn't in your hands, but you did your best and now you should move on. When you put too much stock into one interview, one audition and your mood is drastically affected for the worse, you in essence are forfeiting all of the blessings that were to come your direction. You begin to think that the world is against you and that there are people conspiring against you. Keep yourself clean spirited, keep far away from wearing the "woe is me" garb and live moment to moment and keep yourself open to all of the possibilities of the world.

Remember, it is never personal.. it only becomes personal if you give your mind reasons to feel as such.

Peace, Love & Blessings,
