Killing Me Softly

There are a lot of things going on in the world, much of which has captured my attention. We have the current crisis in Sudan, Genocide in our own inner cities across America, an economy that is struggling to find a consistent heart rate and the war we continue to fight in the Middle East.

Now, out of all these prevalent matters, a response from within got triggered by what I continue to see in the world via magazines, more recently in the news and the entertainment community. I've noticed that over the past several years, we've at some point took part in the conversation of "enhancement" or more than likely heard others discussing while digesting our coffee and bagel in some corner of the earth.

We as a society, a good portion of us, are embracing a different kind of beauty. No more do we care about the natural element of a woman, their skin, their outer being, etc. If I had statistics, I would share, but there are so many women nowadays going under the knife, receiving botox treatments, receiving butt injections and so forth. The latter is the most troubling, and I just don't understand it. I feel like we're growing up now more than ever in the magazine culture. That culture is parenting our youth and even young adults, conveying a message that says "be all you can be...superficially".

I remember growing up, as I was born in the 80s', and appreciating the beauty of a woman. I just wish we can school our women of tomorrow, to embrace themselves as they are. EVERYONE has flaws. Unfortunately, no one was made perfect despite what we think. I especially frown upon women who go through these "changes" for career purposes or for some kind of notoriety or gain. Remember, you cannot order another body or body parts for that matter when you get older. You will only create major health risks as you age. Why can't we just age gracefully? You might have some sagging skin here and there, or smile lines, but so what? Will you become less of a law abiding citizen because you aren't a picture perfect caricature of "Jessica Rabbit"?

Embrace the way God created you and feel great knowing that there is only one you in the world. The day you begin to drastically change your physical appearance, is the day you're no longer yourself. You've become someone else.

Think wisely.
